General Information

The Whitefield Theological Seminary has had many requests over the years to design a program for the training of elders and deacons in theological studies. The administration met in 2000 to determine whether a program could be developed by modifying the courses offered through the seminary. It was determined that an elder/deacon training program needed to be specially designed with the Christian layman in mind. The result is Thornwell Presbyterian Divinity College, an ecclesiastical school for the training of elders and deacons for ministry and leadership in Reformed and Presbyterian churches. Training is accomplished using a specially designed reading program suitable for independent, mentor or classroom studies.

Educational Objective

The basic educational objective of the Thornwell Presbyterian Divinity College is to train men for the offices of elder and deacon. The means to obtaining this objective is quality theological training in the Reformed tradition. It is believed by Thornwell Presbyterian Divinity College that the best officer in the church is one who has obtained a quality knowledge of doctrine, church history, philosophy, biblical studies, and practical theology that enhance his gifts and calling from the Lord. To this end, Thornwell Presbyterian Divinity College seeks to expand and deepen the understanding of men for the offices of elder and deacon.
